GRADUATE PROGRAM IN ARTS (LETRAS), CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF PELOTAS (UCPEL, BRAZIL) – Language & Teaching Journal
Call for papers: Language & Teaching, an international peer-reviewed biannual publication of the Graduate Program in Arts of the Catholic University of Pelotas (Brazil), welcomes submissions for its thematic issue “Language and Cognition”, and to other issues. The submissions might be in the following topics:
- Perspectives in Cognitive Linguistics: studies on metaphor and metonymy, prototypes, embodiment, image schemas, schematic networks; cognitive grammar; construction grammar; frame semantics; cognitive sociolinguistics; mental spaces theory; usage-based models of language acquisition;
- Emergentist perspectives on language and cognition: approaches in terms of complex and nonlinear systems; dynamic patterns; attractors; synergetics; interdependence of thought and language; production-perception linkage in child language development;
- Psychoanalytic and developmental perspectives on the acquisition of symbolic thought: language, cognitive pathologies and communicational disorders; babbling; rejection (rejet, Ausstossung, Verwerfung); prosody and rhythm (pulsional bases of phonation, alliteration, géno-texte); mirror phase and holophrastic discourse; paragrammatism;
- Semiological and semiotic perspectives, critique of representacionalism: autonomy of iconic thinking (iconicity); code, saturation, supplement; poetic function and other functions of language (Jakobson); the avantgarde and processes of meaning production; relation between language and other systems of signs in scientific discourses and other kinds of discourses; inscription; intertextuality;
The submissions might be written in English, French, Portuguese or Spanish. Please, provide in a separate page information about the author: name, affiliation, contact and a short biographical note. The submissions must have an abstract in the original language and in English (100 to 150 words), and three to five key words. The deadline for the thematic issue is August 20, 2013.
